First Energy Powerhouse
In 1892, this Romanesque Revival style powerhouse was built to provide electricity for streetcars. With the rise of the automobile in the 1920s, the plant closed. The building became home to a barrel reconditioning plant and later a warehouse.
Over time, the Powerhouse was abandoned and sat deteriorating until Jacobs Entertainment, Inc. purchased and renovated the iconic building in the 1980s. Today the revitalized space is home to Greater Cleveland Aquarium and Windows On The River.
