We are all in when it comes to supporting our local communities

Nevada

In Reno, Nevada, we’ve been proud to lend a hand to the Girl Scouts, the Veteran’s Guest House Radiothon, the March of Dimes, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Evelyn Mount Food Drive and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.

We have also been honored to contribute food, lodging, and/or clothing through our efforts with the following organizations: the Children’s Cabinet, Red Cross, Foster Grandparent Program, United Blood Services, Grandma Pat’s Closet and many area firefighters and their fire stations.

Our Gold Dust West Casino Hotel, in Carson City, is a proud sponsor of the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, donating $15,000 annually.  In addition, the Gold Dust West is a vital partner within the community of Carson City, sponsoring various events and local sports teams.

Ohio

Nautica Charity Poker Festivals, located within the Nautica Entertainment Complex in Cleveland Ohio, has raised nearly $10 million for local charities since its inception in 2005 including $2.9 million in 2011. Just a few of the charities that have benefited include: The Ronald McDonald House® of Cleveland, Inc. which supports families whose children are receiving treatment at area medical centers by providing a home-like environment and essential resources and services. Medina Creative Housing, Inc. which works with families to encourage early planning and timely transition of adult children with disabilities into independent housing with support designed and adapted to meet their child’s individual needs. The Friends of D.A.R.E., Inc. a program taught by Cleveland Police Officers to elementary school 5th graders and targets the topic of Drug Abuse. And the Bellflower Center for Prevention of Child Abuse which prevents child abuse and neglect by breaking the cycle of child abuse in all its forms through clinical treatment and education. More information about the Bellflower Center for Prevention of Child Abuse is available at their website.

We have also been big supporters of Art On Wheels in Cleveland, Ohio. This non-profit art education organization has given a voice to individuals of all abilities through engagement in hands-on arts experiences that enrich the lives of individuals, their families, and our community. Visit the Art on Wheels website to learn more.

Colorado

During 2006, The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk partnered with The Denver Dumb Friends League for three of its biggest events: the Furry Scurry, the Kitty Karnival and the Wags & Purrs 2006 Adopt-A-Thon.  Our sponsorships covered a variety of community causes from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation to local food drives.

In addition, we’ve been active with The Giving Tree of Gilpin and Clear Creek Counties, Aids Walk Colorado, the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure, Food Drive for Gilpin County Social Services, KUSA-Channel 9′s Health Fair in Denver, and the inaugural Peak to Creek Duck Race.

To learn whether we might be a partner in your own worthy community project, please submit your request in writing on official letterhead to the Donation Committee at each of the individual casino properties.

Virginia

Colonial Downs recently raised funds for three local equine non-profit groups at the track’s annual legislative reception. Attendees received a supply of mythical wagering dollars which they placed on a series of “for fun” tabletop horseracing games. Participants who won directed their mythical dollars to one of three charities. At the end of the evening, Colonial Downs made actual contributions in the amount of $900 to the Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center in Powhatan, Virginia, $800 to the New Kent 4-H organization, and $700 to the James River Chapter of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

Colonial Downs is also a proud sponsor along with the State Fair of Virginia for the upcoming Strawberry Hill Races, an event that has a history dating back to 1895 and mixes the love of horses with the fun of tailgating. Since its inception in 1989, The State Fair of Virginia Scholarship Program has awarded 2,439 scholarships and has dedicated over $1.8 million to youth education. State Fair of Virginia is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization and not affiliated with the state government.
